Huge Rallies Calling for Moon Jae-in, Cho Kuk to Step Down in Seoul on National Foundation Day

On October 3, 2019, South Koreans gathered for massive rallies calling for Moon Jae-in to step down and for Cho Kuk, the newly appointed Justice Minister, to be sent to jail. Cho Kuk’s family is under investigation for corruption and a long list of other allegations. For more on Cho Kuk scandal, see here.
Although the corruption, hypocrisy, and unethical, if not illegal, acts by Cho Kuk pushed more people to the streets, the protests fundamentally us about defending the freedom, liberal democracy, and market economy against Moon and his party’s efforts in the past 3 years to erode freedom and steer South Korea toward socialism, friendly to China and North Korea.
That is why people wave both the South Korean and U.S. flags at the rallies. The U.S. is a symbol of freedom and they support strong U.S.-ROK alliance.
Unlike in the past, some of the major news sources covered the protests, including Chosun, Channel A, SBS, Yonhap, and The Korea Times.
However, MBC called it a “coup d’état,” echoing the ruling Deobureo Minju party [Democratic Party of Korea] and North Korea’s mouthpiece, the Rodong Shinmun.
The ruling party also called the reporting of these rallies “fake news.”
These huge rallies, however, are undeniable.
