At a National Assembly hearing, Assemblyman Jang Je-won, Liberty Korea Party, questioned Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Deoburreo Minju Party. Jang pointed out the Seoul city government spending 190,000,000 won ($170,000) to make Socialist Economy school textbooks and distributing them to 928 elementary classes, 178 middle schools, and 136 high schools.
Jang described this as Park Won-soon and Seoul Superintendent of Education Jo Hee-yeon trying to propagate their own beliefs and make children ideological believers in socialism. Park said “is socialist economy a bad thing?” and “Doesn’t the free market have a limit?”
Jang also said it praised the Beautiful Store [Park Won-soon’s Beautiful Store and Beautiful Foundation] and asked if the books are advertisements for the mayor.
