A Man Crushed by Two Police Buses on 8.15 During Rallies in Seoul

A man was pinned between two police buses, when the bus in front backed into the man.  He was pinned for about 5 minutes, screaming in pain.  When people yelled for the bus to drive forward, the bus driver did not move the bus.  It appears the driver of the bus may have instead put the bus in reverse, crushing him more.

The pinned man was not violent.  He was just trying to get to the other side.  The rallies held on August 15, 2020 were peaceful.

The pinned man, finally removed, lies on the ground.

People were going in between buses to get to the other side. As this man was going through, someone backed the bus, which was sitting stationary, pinning and crushing him.  He was apparently stuck there for five minutes.  It is unknown whether he was taken to a hospital or whether he survived.  No major news is reporting about this man’s situation.

This was a tragedy.  In the recent past, several anti-Moon rally goers also passed away during peaceful rallies, and their deaths also were not covered by the major media. The government did not conduct investigations, despite the calls to do so.

The questions are:

  1. The buses were stationary and were used to barricade or outline areas.  Why was the bus moved?  Why was it placed on reverse, where the gap with another police bus was already small?  Where was the safety spotter to ensure no one was behind the bus and that it did not hit the other bus?
  2. After the man was pinned, the bus started again.  Why didn’t it move forward to unpin him, when people were yelling that the bus needs to move forward and that someone was pinned behind the bus?
  3. Who was the driver?
