It was discovered on June 26, 2019 that key equipment for the Special Forces Missions Brigade (Decapitation Unit) were diverted as training equipment to the Hanvit Unit that is about to be deployed to South Sudan. “They’ve taken away 60 sets of special equipment, including silencers, sights, scopes, and night vision equipment that were issued to the 13th Brigade (Decapitation Unit) as training items for the Hanvit Unit…we were not able to train with the equipment properly after getting them issued, and now they have to be turned in. There’s talk that all of the equipment may be taken out, using this as an opportunity,” according to a military personnel familiar with the issue.
The Hanvit Unit’s mission is to provide “reconstruction assistance” as part of UN peacekeeping operations (PKO) and has been deployed to South Sudan since 2013. Most of them are military engineers, and border guards comprise of one quarter of the total troop strength. To such a unit were given special operations equipment, such as silencers and scopes, which were designated for the Decapitation Unit.
The Decapitation Unit’s mission is to target North Korean war leadership and to destroy WMD. [truncated]
