South Korea’s KCSC Decides to Block YouTube Videos about North Korea’s Involvement in 5.18 (Gwangju Incident), Excludes Opposition Party-nominated Lee Sang-ro from Deliberation and Voting

On March 29, 2019, Korea Communications Standards Commission / KCSC (방송통신심의위원회 / 방심위) decided to block people’s access to YouTube videos on “North Korean forces involvement in 5.18 (the Gwangju Incident of May 1980)” in deliberation proceedings that excluded the opposition party-nominated Mr. Lee Sang-ro (이상로).

KCSC held a Communications Standards Subcomittee meeting on March 29 at its broadcasting hall in Mokdong District, Seoul and made a decision to block access to 30 YouTube videos that covered 5.18 (Gwangju Incident), including “North Korean involvement in the 5.18.”  On March 27, 2019, the “5.18 Memorial Foundation” filed an appeal against Lee Sang-ro. Before the deliberation, the committee members said “if Lee Sang-ro is present, the committee’s credibility will be poor,” citing the appeal. [truncated]
