The former commander (of the Defense Security Command) is said to have frequently confided in the people around him about the psychological pressure he felt since the prosecution investigated him.  In particular, the prosecutor pressured him to point out Kim Kwan-jin, the former National Security Adviser, as complicit in a crime, and the former commander was tormented by such pressure, conveyed an acquaintance.

The investigation stemmed from the ‘the Record of 180 days of Sewol Ferry.’  Despite contents, such as “Do not act in a way that can be misconstrued as surveillance,” the prosecutors magnified only specific parts, and  Lee Jae-soo, the former commander of the Defense Security Command, felt he was falsely and unfairly accused.

“The issues that are currently being investigated are presented as such [false way], and the issues are not even released to the entire press, but only to certain media [which then report] …”

The acquaintances say that even after the arrest warrant was dismissed, he suffered from the pressure that a separate investigation could begin.

Lawyer Yeo Sang-won (여상원)

“If [the prosecutor] continues to investigate the people concerned (even after the arrest warrant is dismissed), although it will be difficult to get the warrant [for the same charge], the investigation could branch out on another issue, and he [Lee] worried…”

The former commander told his confidants that the prosecutor, in addition to the suspicion of the Sewol Ferry surveillance, had also mentioned the reports to the Blue House, at the time he was summoned for the investigation.  “They [forcibly] took/accessed all the [Defense Security Command’s classified and unclassified] servers,” he said apprehensively, “how could I survive?”

The former commander Lee conveyed to his confidants that the investigators’ pressure to pursue another investigation of him immediately after the summons investigation was to target “the former National  Security Advisor Kim Kwan-jin, and they wanted Lee to “name” him.

Lee also said [the prosecutors] conducted search and seizure of Chairman Park Ji-man’s office at EG, where he [Lee] was an outside director, and told those around him not to contact him, lest they get hurt as well [by association, by the prosecutors].
